LOS ANGELES — Newlyweds and couples moving toward marriage, take note. Love, as it turns out, is not all you need.

Not if your goal is to avoid the No. 1 reason marriages end in divorce: Money problems.

Everyone knows, or should know, this. But love and a reluctance to take a hard look at our own financial habits, often keep us from seeing, much less confronting, potential financial troubles in a relationship.

Failing to do so, however, can lead to serious post-wedding day troubles.

“Mature, responsible conversations about money are a sign of a marriage that’s going to be healthy and wonderful and enduring,” says Brooke Salvini, a certified financial planner based in San Louis Obispo, Calif. “If you can’t talk about money when you are dating, that is a red flag right there.”

It seems in Hollywood nothing is as perfect and glossy as it appears from the outside—including marriage.

Today Hollywood marriages often imply a whirlwind romance, lavish wedding ceremony, and quickie divorce. (Kim Kardashian, anyone?)

Actor/comedian Robin Williams once said, “Ah yes, divorce … from the Latin word meaning to rip out a man’s genitals through his wallet.” Williams’ two high-profile divorces cost him over $20 million, causing him to be quite the cynic about divorce proceedings.

As we saw with Heidi Klum and Seal’s separation, a once amicable separation can quickly turn into a vicious and prolonged battle at the mere mention of money. It is reported that Seal is now after half of Heidi’s hard earned $70 million fortune.

Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee issued an executive order on Monday that requires the state to recognize same sex marriages performed out-of-state. The order gives married same sex couples many of the same rights as heterosexual couples. However, same sex couples married elsewhere will still not be able to get a divorce in the state.

Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) told Raw Story that the executive order does not provide the ability to divorce. In 2007, the Rhode Island Supreme Court ruled that the state’s Family Court does not have jurisdiction to recognize a same sex marriage performed out of state, and therefore could grant same sex couples a divorce.

Legislation currently being considered by the Rhode Island House, The Equal Access to Family Court Act, would need to be signed into law before same sex couples married out-of-state could file for divorce.

The divorce isn’t final, but the trial separation has begun for the Gaston-Lincoln Regional Library System.

The system that has been in place nearly 50 years recently started the process of splitting into two separate entities, as required by the state.

Directors of both county library systems said they intend the process to be as painless as possible for their patrons.

“We want to keep providing the same service we always have to patrons here,” said Jennifer Sackett, director of the Lincoln County public library.

Impact on the public

Prior to the split, patrons can experience one-stop shopping for their library materials. A person in Gaston County can request a book from Lincoln County. The book would be couriered to the person’s preferred location and returned to any of the 13 libraries.

That process will change permanently by July.

Will Smith is refuting rumors that hismarriage to Jada Pinkett Smith is on the rocks.

The 43-year-old actor recently told “Access Hollywood’s” Shaun Robinson that the constant divorce rumors, which surfaced last summer, are “just a part of the game.”

“With that type of stuff, you can’t take that personally. It’s just a game,” Smith said. “I can understand where somebody would have something in their heart where they need to stab at somebody, where they need to poke at somebody. But I’m indestructible.”

British funnyman Russell Brand could really use a time machine right now. Apparently, the comedian, 36, recently sent a long email to Ms. Perry asking for a second chance at a relationship and stating that he ‘gave up’ on their 14-month marriage too soon. The email reportedly states that the divorce was ‘the biggest mistake’ of his life.

A source close to the comic says that the email was likely prompted by jealousy. Perry, 27, was spotted canoodling with Florence and the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd at Coachella last month.

“Word has it Russell was ‘seething with jealousy’ when he saw pictures of her with Rob. He apparently feels he gave up on their relationship too easily,” says the source.

McKINNEY, Texas — A Texas judge ordered Deion Sanders’ estranged wife on Monday to stay at least 500 yards away from the former NFL star’s suburban Dallas home in a ruling stemming from a scuffle between the pair last month.

State District Judge Ray Wheless also gave the Hall of Famer temporary custody of the former couple’s children pending a full custody hearing, and ordered that the children undergo psychological counseling.

Wheless ruled that the injuries to Pilar Sanders, which she alleged her husband inflicted during an April 23 scuffle at their $5.7 million home in Prospect, were a result of Deion Sanders defending himself from her assault. Wheless said that since Deion Sanders experienced no pain, it was only simple assault, which is punishable by a fine.

The final day of testimony in the Deion Sanders divorce drama included bombshells and surprises. But it has all come to an end… for now.

Deion left the Collin County Courthouse Monday night with the protective order he had been hoping for.

Judge Jay Wheless gave the Hall of Famer exclusive use of the family’s sprawling Prosper estate. He also must continue to support his three kids, who are ordered to receive counseling, and neither parent can leave with the children for longer than two weeks.

Deion made his exit with the large African art statue he brought as evidence for the day. Pilar and her friend Dianna Boswell had testified he hit her with it on April 23 when she went to his room looking for her youngest son, who she hadn’t seen in four days.

Boswell said she “heard Pilar screaming. It was a gut-wrenching scream.” Then she said she ran down the hall and “I saw him standing over her with a statue in his hand and Pilar with her hands over her head. I saw him hit her with a statue.”

Late in the afternoon Pilar took the stand and testified Deion was swinging at her and hitting her, saying “he was enraged. He grabs my throat, picks me up off the ground and shoves me into the glass doors behind me.”

“You can scream all you want. Nobody can hear you back here,” Pilar said Deion told her.

Deion denied it all, saying he simply pinned her arms to her side and carried her out of his bedroom.
