A Malaysian businessman’s gift of a white Ferrari to former celebrity couple reality star Kim Kardashian and basketball player Kris Humphries for their wedding is set to steal the limelight in their divorce proceedings.

Britain’s Daily Mail reported that the 27-year-old NBA player wanted his wife to tell the truth regarding the US$325,000 (RM975,000) car.

Humphries wants to know what happened to the luxury car given to them by a “wealthy Malaysian businessman” who had reportedly attended their wedding, among other things.

However, a representative of Kardashian told a website that she had bought the car herself.

Her lawyer Laura Wesser accused Humphries of seeking publicity by trying to prolong the proceedings to dissolve the 72-day marriage.

The couple separated last October and the 31-year-old Kardashian has a new boyfriend in musician Kanye West.

The spat came up after Kardashian recently announced that she was donating US$200,000 (RM600,000) to charity to cover “double the value” of their wedding gifts.

They say wisdom grows with age, but that might not be the case when it comes to marriage.

The divorce rate among couples aged 50 and up has no less than doubled between 1990 and 2009, driving researchers in search of the reason why.

There are the usual culprits when it comes to sending happy unions down the toilet, such as age, race, finances and education. But a team of sociologists from Bowling Green University think they’ve come up with the key reason so many seniors are calling it quits: Past divorces.

In an upcoming study called “The Gray Divorce Revolution,” researchers say adults in their second and third marriages have a 150 percent greater chance at splitting up than first timers, according to Total Divorce.

Hollywood may have come up with The Seven Year Itch, but the movie title does point to a potent force tearing many marriages apart.

Just how potent can be seen in some eye-opening figures: People married for between five and nine years comprised the largest group of divorcing couples in the past two decades.

Of the couples who ended their marriages in 2010, 30.4 per cent fell into this category, but at least the figure was down from the 36 per cent in 1990.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Statistics released from the online legal site “FindLaw” show that March is the top month for divorce filings. One local lawyer who specializes in divorce is not all surprised.

Daniel Reinherz is a case manager of Center City Law Firm Reinherz and Reinherz Law says there are several factors that contribute to this fact.

“First the obvious: people are getting their tax refunds. With a little extra money, they are able to do things that maybe weren’t on the top of their priority list but still important to them, such as getting a divorce.”

(CNN) – David Murphy hasn’t started shopping for his two boys yet, and he knows he had better get started. The divorced father of two boys, ages 11 and 14, has custody for a full week around Christmas Day this year and needs to get a tree and start buying presents.

Every other year, Murphy (who didn’t want his real name used to protect his children’s privacy) doesn’t have Christmas custody. So, he tries to do something completely different. Divorced for four years, he has traveled with his mother to visit England, where she was born. He has joined his father and stepmother on a trip to Carmel, California.

He hasn’t crashed his ex-wife’s Christmas Day plans, even though she lives only three miles away from his home in suburban Virginia.

“We try not to mess with the schedule when we don’t have to because it’s easier on both parties,” said Murphy. “As each party has moved on, it happened to work that way. We try not to interfere with each other.”

Move over Kim Kardashian there is a new sheriff of divorce in town.

Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has divorced his wife of 12 days, blaming a ‘plot’ by secret agents loyal to his rival Robert Mugabe.

Mr Tsvangirai, 59, said ‘an active political hand’ was behind stories in newspapers controlled by the despotic president suggesting he had to marry Locadia Tembo, 39, because she was pregnant.

She is reportedly due to give birth to twins early next year. If true, it means Mr Tsvangirai got her pregnant before they married – taboo in Zimbabwe

Though a divorce is certainly not a planned or ideal event, there are better times than others to get a divorce. Many couples choose divorce based on their current financial situation or the environment around them.

So what should you look out for? New York actually has a lower divorce rates than other states, which experts claim can be partially attributed to the state’s poor economy. With higher taxes and fewer jobs, individual spouses feel less confident on their ability to live and thrive on their own. In addition to paying for the divorce itself, post-divorce you may have to purchase or rent a new house, car, furniture, etc., all of which can be costly.

Connected to a bad economy, an unstable real estate market, can also make getting a divorce more difficult. If you or your spouse is selling your former home, you are likely not going to sell it for your ideal price. A good idea would be to have one spouse stay in the house so you do not have to deal with the market.

Having a bad credit history is not good when you are getting a divorce. Post-divorce, you may find yourself looking for a new place to live, opening a new credit card, or interviewing for a new job. Al of these may be affected if you have a bad credit report. It also can hurt you when settling child custody and financial support arrangements.

Many couples also wait until their children are older to divorce. If you and your spouse choose to divorce with a child under 18, you are going to have to settle custody and financial support. A divorce will affect your ability to pay to support the child and even larger expenses, such as college, may be affected.

If you choose to split up under any of these conditions, pay attention to how those circumstances will affect your life during and after divorce.

Marriage statistics, though revealing some changes over the years, have consistently shown since the 1950s that most couples split after about seven years, according to Boston.com. We know that today couples are marrying at older ages and dealing with different financial worries and divorce laws. So why has this statistic remained? What makes the seventh year different?

A professor of sociology and public policy at Johns Hopkins University, Andrew J. Cherlin, explains that seven years marks a crucial point in the relationship between spouses. By seven years, a couple has a sense of how they work together, how they sort out problems and whether or not those problems can be fixed. Cherlin stated, “Over time, people’s flaws reveal themselves. The positives remain, but the negatives build up. It may be that after a while you realize your spouse won’t be providing for you economically as well as you want.”

Additionally, while a couple may see reason to split before reaching the seventh year, they may not be emotionally or financially ready to make the decision. Raising kids or trying to move up in the workplace may encourage couples to stay together.

According to the New York State Department of Health, New York couples also followed this trend. In 2009, more marriages lasted between 5-9 years in both New York City (8,057 divorces) and the state in total (14,700) than any other duration. While New York has seen a recent increase in the divorce rate by 12% due to the enactment of no-fault divorce, it is still unclear as to how this has affected the median age of marriages.
