Brand in Divorce Quip at MTV Awards

Russell Brand used his recent divorce to fuel his comedy as he hosted the 2012 MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles.

The comedian, who announced his split from pop star Katy Perry in December, told the audience: “Last time I did an MTV show I ended up marrying someone.

“Tonight I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for my next wife.”

Brand also targeted Kim Kardashian, joking: “Kim took a lot of pressure off with her world record marriage – thanks, Kim.”

The Hunger Games was the big winner of the night, taking home four awards including best female performance for Jennifer Lawrence, and best male performance for Josh Hutcherson.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 took home the movie of the year award, with Taylor Lautner thanking the franchise’s “loyal and dedicated” fans, while Twilight’s Kristen Stewart also went on stage to accept the best kiss gong.

Jennifer Aniston was named best dirtbag for her role as a predatory dentist in Horrible Bosses, while Melissa McCarthy beat her Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig in the best comedy performance category.

Johnny Depp took to the stage with the Black Keys after being honoured with the Generation award, presented to him by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith.

“It’s like the ‘get out of the business award’ because you’ve done too much,” Depp quipped, adding: “It’s an honour to be presented by these two legends Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and these upcoming legends the Black Keys.”
