Can a Gene Make You More Likely to Cheat?

Are some people actually biologically prone to cheating on their spouses?

The answer may lie in the correlation between people having ADHD and the rate of divorce. Those with ADHD also report more marital problems than those without the disorder, according to several studies (Barkley, et. Al. 2008; Eakin et. Al. 2004).

The authors of the study Garcia, et al. concluded having a particular gene variation (specifically, one 7-repeat allele) can “be an influential factor in individual differences in motivation to engage in sexual behavior of a risky and uncommitted nature.”

Stephanie Sarkis, Ph.D., writer for Psychology Today, explains that while those with ADHD may be more inclined to cheat, with the right decision-making, they may not actually cheat more than those without it.
