Divorce and Retirement

Here’s one piece of advice: If you are going to get divorced, don’t do it if retirement is right around the corner…the results could be crippling. According to the Financial Post.

Divorce has had a devastating financial effect on a man who at age 59 is just a year from his planned retirement.

His wife, an economist raked in 70% of the income while they were together, equivalent to $300,000. The subsequent split left him with absolutely no connection to her money and now he is forced to live off his own income.
