According to this article there are several factors that prevent couples from having successful marriage counseling. This includes; looking for permission to get divorced, trying to prove your spouse is wrong, unwillingness to change, refusal to do homework, and making counseling a low priority. Counseling can only be deemed successful if both parties put in sufficient time and effort into making their marriage work and creating a better relationship between themselves. Counseling is no magical act that “fixes” everything. Effort and dedication to make things better are the real key to a successful rebuilt marriage.
