How to have an amicable divorce
Divorce is usually hell but it is possible to negotiate the treacherous waters of marital breakdown relatively well.
Love doesn’t always turn to loathing but when it does, here is where you can find yourself: seething in a courtroom, paying a high-priced lawyer to do what you’re perfectly capable of doing yourself. Barking bile at your ex, firing wildly, using everything available as ammo. The kids. The house. The dog.
This is divorce as we imagine it in our worst nightmares; nightmares in which our worst selves are set free to scratch and claw and crush without compunction.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. When they first started down the divorce road, Janita and her husband engaged with lawyers and in arguments before realising neither would get them where they wanted: a civilised divorce.
