Kelly Clarkson’s Parents’ Divorce Caused Relationship Issues

Kelly Clarkson says her parents’ split has affected her romantic relationships.

“Divorce isn’t fun,” Clarkson told Britain’s Daily Mirrorin an article published Friday. “It affects relationships you get into when you are older. I think you have to work a little harder because you’re constantly thinking it’s probably not going to work out in the end.”

According to the Daily Mirror, Clarkson’s parents divorced when she was five; her mom later remarried and then separated from her second husband when the singer was 19.

The first “American Idol” winner has lamented her lack of a dating life before, telling Parade magazine in October 2011 that she’s prone to “horrible dates.” She said, “Some days I think, ‘I’ll meet him. Everybody finds somebody,’ and other days I’m like, ‘Maybe I won’t. Maybe I just missed the memo.'”
