During divorce, a place to turn
DETROIT — When Joost Allard went through a divorce in 2009, he struggled with countless problems from emotional issues to financial complications. He felt all alone, with no one to help guide him other than his lawyer.
Christine McQueen, one of his friends, was frustrated. “Standing on the sideline, I was watching this all unfold,” said McQueen, 40, a laid-off automotive engineer. “I was heartbroken that he had to go through so much during the process. I asked him the fundamental question: ‘Is there any help out there? Are there any support groups outside of your legal counsel?'”
