Brownback Effort Seeks to Boost Marriage Rate
Governor Sam Brownback is creating quite a stir in Topeka, Kansas. Mr. Brownback, sat along with a group comprised of 20 different people, who shared their opinions on establishing a marriage program. One person went as far to say polygamy is more in line with core marriage values than same-sex marriage.
The Governor says his main objective is to boost marriages and slash divorce rates. Marriage Savers creator, Mike McManus was also a part of the group and felt clergy members were to blame. He suggested clergy members in each county should sign and enforce a “community marriage policy” to prohibit church weddings unless the couple completes a 200 item premarital inventory and met with a church-trained mentor. He also suggested to Brownback a prohibition of no-fault divorce unless there was proof of physical abuse or adultery.
