Divorce just isn’t often an option in the Church of Scientology — unless of course church leaders order you to do so.

Scientology leaders often pressure divorcing members into at least trying to work it out before filing court papers, leading to a long and difficult battle, according to a new look into the religion from The New York Times.

But, sometimes, if they feel the church is threatened, leaders might order members to divorce after years of marriage, according to the Times.
