During your divorce meditation your spouse is granted the property that you two initial both signed off on. The mortgage is not paid in full but the court is requiring you to sign it over to him/her. But then your spouse is unable to make payments on the house, guess what? you are liable and your credit will be affected as well.
How do you avoid this. Make sure your that you insist during the divorce proceedings that your spouse refinance the mortgage under his/her own name. By doing so you exempt yourself from any later surprise fees thus protecting your financial future.
