Facebook and Divorce: To Post Your Status or Not to Post Your Status

So, you’ve chosen to end your marriage and go your separate ways.  Today, an important question to consider is should you Facebook your new relationship status?  Social media has become part of the norm, and there are pros and cons of airing your dirty laundry for all to see.  A recent article that was published at Huffington Post, talks about the reasons why you should not Facebook your soon to be divorce.

“It’s tempting to tell-all — misery loves company after all. But if your ex can stumble upon your rants about him or her, your kids can, too. You may be posting about all the bad things your ex did, but your kids don’t necessarily share those feelings with you. And there are some things kids shouldn’t know about their parents until after they pass, if then. So the best thing you can do when you’re an emotional mess over a breakup is hide your computer, or so says Scott Friedman, a motivational speaker who offers workshops for singles. “It’s too dangerous to sit at the computer and write about how angry you are at your ex. You tend to exaggerate. You’re better off just talking to a friend” states the article.

There are many other interesting reasons that one should not use social media in terms of divorce, check out the article here.

The bottom line the article is to spend time talking with friends about the emotions you feel about your divorce. Just make sure it is not a Facebook Friend.
