A new phenomenon is being reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, and it speaks of sinister plans, men beware.

It has been referred to as the “post-HSC” divorce. Women, usually in their 40s and 50s plan their divorce ahead of time, first allowing their children to navigate through the early school unsaved from the harsh  realities.The phenomenon, observed by relationship experts, is one reason why divorce rates for Australian women in this age group are climbing faster than any other.

The latest marriages and divorces report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that from 2001 to 2006 there was a 0.7 per cent increase in women divorcing in the 50-54 age bracket and a 0.6 per cent increase in women aged 55-64 divorcing.

While At the same time, divorce rates for younger women decreased.

They are referred to rather dubiously as Marriage exit strategies or ”five-year plans.” Older women who have found themselves unsatisfied have delayed separation for the sake of their children’s upbringing or education.
