Is California’s “Third Option” a Way to Salvage Your Marriage?
Is your marriage on the rocks? Are you thinking that the best way to move on with your life is to end the marriage? Residents of California, now have a new option available to them in order to prevent divorce.
This new option is called the the “Third Option.” The “Third Option” is a free program that is aimed at teaching couples how to reconcile and ways to deal with the issues that have caused their marriage to become rocky. At these free classes couples will also be able to talk with what they are calling “mentor couples.”
Is this any different from going to couples counseling? One nice thing is that they are easy on your wallet, as they’re free. If you had trouble getting your spouse to agree to going to “talk” to someone, it may be challenging to get them to share their feelings about your issues with a group of people.
In a recent article published on Business and Law, the success rate of the program was one of the most amazing points of the article. The article reported that “Twenty percent of Californians have attended a marriage education class or program, and an astounding 95 percent found the classes helpful”. Will that 95 percent be able to remain married and be happy?
The concept is wonderful, but the question remains is the “Third Option” really an option for reconciliation or just another way to prolong the divorce?
