New Limits on Alimony in Massachusetts

On Monday the Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, signed a law that would limit alimony and make changes to the outdated system.

The previous system was flawed because it allowed judges to award lifelong alimony within short and long marriages, and it also required a spouse to continue paying the alimony after retirement or even if the former spouse began living with another partner.
