Woman Sues Her Ex 34 Years After Divorce

34 years ago, Frances Ragusa, 75, and her former husband, Phillip, 77, split in a bitter divorce after 17 years of marriage. Frances is now suing her husband, accusing him for not paying child support. The original settlement in December 1977 called for him to pay $14,393.57 in child support, an amount that, with interest, is now valued at about $100,000.

A few months ago, Frances called her husband for the first time in years to settle the issue.  Frances claims that when he heard her voice, her ex-husband began to cry before hanging up the phone. She did not want to give up the fight, however, and her case is currently being heard in Brooklyn Supreme Court. Frances suffered from financial troubles and even went on welfare for a short period after getting divorced, adding to her frustration over the lack of child support payments. She stated, “I want justice, that’s all. My family did not deserve what he and the system did to us.”
