More Women Paying Spousal Support
Recent data analysis shows a new trend in New York divorce: more women are paying more in alimony to their exes. A 2002 study by author Lila Vasileff reported that 24% of working wives in two-income households made more money than their husbands. If you are making more than your soon-to-be ex, don’t be surprised if you have to pay more in alimony than you would expect.
New York courts consider many factors in order to determine how alimony payments after a divorce will be paid. The earnings of each party and their sources of income are very important in this consideration. The courts’ decision on alimony can also be based on whether or not one party financially assisted another go through schooling or employment training and whether or not there was domestic violence. The court also considers whether or not each party would be able to financially support the children.
