Boomer divorce: A costly retirement roadblock

For baby boomers the divorce rate is rising quickly and the implications are as well.

USA Today reports that between 1990-2010 the divorce rate doubled with one of four of those being baby boomers.

When retirement has already been planned, throwing any wrench into the system could cause massive problems, but there are ways to protect yourself in case of a divorce later on in life:

1)   When you hire a divorce lawyer make sure to hire a financial advisor as well and ensure that they work together to hash out the best possible situation for you.

2)    Do not support your adult children; they are not your responsibility anymore. Though they may still ask you to help out be sure to set limits.
