Women Save Money Post-Divorce with ‘The Divorcee Sale’

Whitney Barry, a recently divorced mother of two children from Beverly Hills, has a clever way of downsizing her closet.

Barry consigned some of her designer shoes, cashmere sweaters and handbags for a fashion event called The Divorcee Sale. She says that the event helped her “gain perspective” and learn from her current financial situation.

The event was originally held in Los Angeles, and for the first time this past weekend in Orange County. Jill Alexander, the event’s creator, is bringing the sale to New York in September.

“Divorce is life,” Alexander explained about the event, which donates part of the proceeds to charity, “Why not turn it into a positive?”
