New York Uncontested Divorce: NY Times Says Its Less Harmfull to Those Involved, Especially Children

The New York Times just published an op-ed articles discussing how no-fault divorce is the best way to protect children (and all people involved) from the harmful consequences of divorce. Unfortunately, New York is the only state in the nation that does not allow no-fault divorce, except under the narrow exception of what is called a conversion divorce where the parties had filed a separation agreement with the court and waited a year.

New York Prenuptial Agreements: Study Shows that Cohabitating Before Marriage Increases Your Chances of Divorce

The New York Times just wrote an editorial citing a study that was recently released that shows that couples who live together before getting married are more likely to get divorce. Your chances improve if you’re engaged before moving in together.

That being said, many couples today live together before getting engaged or married.

If you are going to get married and are worried about protecting your assets in the case of a divorce, a New York pre-nuptial agreement (prenup) is an excellent was to safeguard against what seems like the ever-increasing rate of divorce.

New York Prenuptial Agreements: What to Do and Not to Do…

If you are considering getting a pre-nuptial agreement, a.k.a. a “prenup,” there are some things you should know…

I get phone calls almost daily (usually from the person who stands to lose money if they get divorced) who say that they want a prenuptial agreement where their fiance or spouse is entitled to nothing in the case of divorce.

New York Divorce Attorney, Flat Fee Versus By the Hour: Sanity Versus Insanity

Today’s attorney’s fees have become astronomical. I recently read an article by a New York divorce lawyer who charges $700 per hour. Given that the average contested divorce can take hundreds of hours, if you are in the market for a divorce and can do math your stomach probably just dropped.

$700 an hour is on the high side. The average New York contested divorce attorney fee is approximately $250 an hour. Again, hundreds of hours… I wouldn’t want to be paying those fees.
